This is the 17th kimono in my series of 10! That was my initial intent: to do 10 kimonos in memory of my sister, Mary Jean Olivelli, who was herself an artist and passed away at 57 in 1997. The reason for the Kimono series is too long and complicated to post here, but the series has been a wonderful challenge for me. This one reflects on MJ’s love of the ocean and the weathered treasures she would find there and paint. You can see the whole series here.
