In 2023 I started on a beautiful journey with horses, spending many hours over several months sitting with them and drawing them in many ways. ( You can read about it on my blogpost or you can follow along as I share the journey on Instagram and Facebook .) I heartfully call 2023 “The Year of the Horse.” In this collection, I will be continuing to add drawings of the horses as I process them. Simply put, what you see today, may not be the same as what you will see tomorrow. When I started the YOTH I was not drawing them to sell them or exhibit them in any way. I drew them because I had never drawn horses. I had never spent any time with them and knew absolutely NOTHING about them except two ears up and four legs down. I was drawing them for me! The wonderful surprise was that I loved them and they seemed to reciprocate the love and…… followers loved them too! And on we went, day after day. At times it was hours at a time and multiple days each week. And gradually it led to drawing cows and chickens and mountains and fields and the very road I live on. Bottom line, I drew A LOT! To insure that I would remain “unbridled” myself, I chose to draw on copy paper or simple sketch books, or even on the back of some watercolor prints from decades ago that never sold (what was I thinking when I printed 500 copies on really good expensive paper!?!!??) As a result some really good stuff happened very quickly, often multiple images on the same page. All of this equates to fairly poor quality of surface–not newsprint, but surely not archivally guaranteed.
I say all that, not to apologize, but to say honestly what you will be getting if you should choose to purchase one for yourself, or for a fellow horse lover. I had considered doing fine giclee prints but have decided NOT to do that. Were I to commit myself to do that, I will have to give up more painting time to the “busines of doing art.” And at my age I don’t want to do that. If you want a painting or drawing, let me know. They will be sent most likely unmatted and unframed (for the same reason that I have chosen not to do “prints.”) Any drawing will be $100, including shipping, regardless of size unless otherwise noted. All images are copyrighted and permission is not given by the purchase to replicate them in any way. Today, I have a start on the images that I want to share and I know where they are physically if someone should request them. More will be added as I process them, so come back regularly if you are interested. My goal is to have them all catalogued and available by the end of August 2025.
