Musicians

While attending concerts with Frank,  I usually have a pen and sketch book in hand where I can draw what I am seeing.  That means fast and furious.  In fact, I have noticed that the faster the music, the faster I draw.  And that sometimes is a good thing since I don’t have time to analyze or think about what I am drawing.  The eye-hand response becomes spontaneous.  I have drawn hundreds, maybe thousand, of musicians through the years.  Many of the gesture drawings in this portfolio were either done at a concert or used to make larger drawings or paintings in the studio.  With live concerts impossible during the covid crisis,  we learned to enjoy YouTube concerts all over the world!  I found that I could still enjoy drawing as the images flashed by on the screen, a further challenge in that the camera operator did not necessarily show what I was interested in drawing.  But I love a good challenge!
