The Remembrance of Earth
Number 13 in my series of 10 kimonos…..yes, you read that correctly… This particular kimono diverges from the exact shape and style of many in the series and is made from paper dyed naturally with avocado skins and eco-dyed with leaves from where I live in TN. I started it on Thanksgiving day and continued working on it off and on over the next 10 weeks. During that time period the news seemed to fill with words like global warming, endangered species, Rachel Carson, rising waters, EPA, etc. As I tore the dyed paper, pieced and sewed it, it became apparent that I was creating a kimono that was responding to current environmental issues.
