This little watercolor was done on location, not on a Sunday as the title would suggest, but on the very first day of 2016. I’ve set myself a goal this year to do more plein air painting. I used to do it a lot 30 years ago, but perhaps age has made me a little less tolerant of changing light and bugs and humidity. But I know I love to do it and so enjoyed doing this one. Doing a painting without reference photographs for me has more emotion thrown into the mix. I can’t be super exact about the painting but paint more of what I feel. This was done in just about an hour or so sitting along the shores of the Manatee River in Bradenton. It just reminds me of a leisurely Sunday afternoon.
