Mending a Memory
Over the past year I have painted or drawn this individual at least a half dozen times. I met him 40+ years ago when he was about my current age. I revisited John by re-reading old letters and doing the renderings. It seemed with each painting I was discovering yet another layer of his complex personality. This one is likely the last (but who knows??). It contains bits and pieces of his letters in his own scrawl and is represented by a large complicated weave of papers and images. As I explored I found my memories of John changing and mending. It was a real meditation.
