Blossoms Falling Gently to the Ground
This is the tenth in my ongoing kimono series (see blog). I thought it was to be the last but the series continues to grow beyond this one. The procedure on this one got a bit complicated and involved melted wax, ink, watercolor and embellishments of gold and red papers. As it started to come to completion a line from a haiku came to mind and became the title. In some of the final days of working on it there was yet another mass shooting somewhere in the country and I really wasn’t sure if the red papers were representative of the gentle blossoms or were drops of blood. This kimono has a rather somber tone.
